Counselors Recognized for Changing Lives of High School Students: 'Counselors That Change Lives' Awardees Are From Schools in: Atlanta, GA; Bloomfield Hills, MI; Gahanna, OH; Memphis, TN; Seattle, WA and Baar, Switzerland

Westminster, MD--The Colleges That Change Lives (CTCL) Board of Directors announced awardees in the fifth annual "Counselors That Change Lives" Program. This award is given in recognition of counselors whose dedication to the college counseling profession reflects the mission of CTCL: to promote and support a student-centered college search process.

The following counselors were selected by the CTCL Board from those counselors nominated for the award by the CTCL college membership: This year’s awardees are: Jennifer FitzPatick, Columbus Academy, Ohio; Timothy Gibson, St. George’s Independent School, Tennessee; Kelly Herrington, University Prep, Washington; Elisabeth Marksteiner, International School of Zug and Luzern, Switzerland; Gretchen Parks, Academy of the Sacred Heart, Michigan; Robert Zapotocky, The Galloway School, Georgia.

"We know that these outstanding counselors support our mission to help students frame their search beyond college rankings and to assist them in finding a college that cultivates a lifelong love of learning, while providing the foundation for a successful and fulfilling life. Their tireless work does not go unrecognized and this program is our way of acknowledging all that they do to help students and families on a daily basis," stated Suzanne Lepley, Chairperson of the CTCL Board. She continued, "Too often media stories focus on the negative aspects of the college admissions process and not enough on the individuals who are true to the college counseling profession and who change the lives of students each and every day."

The awardees will be recognized on the CTCL website and at the annual CTCL reception for counselors on September 20, 2013 in Denver, CO as part of the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) annual conference.
