In an ongoing effort to engage the community with our schools and encourage our students to become more involved in the community, Bloomfield Hills Schools is pleased to present the Legacy Program. The Legacy Program will enable our senior community to share their stories and passions with our students. Students and staff from Model High School will help develop this program over the 2012-2013 school year.

"We want to provide opportunities for seniors to share their stories and inspire students to value our community's history, while creating their own legacy," said Stephanie Crider, a community member who developed the idea for a Legacy Program.

We are excited to begin this new program, but we need senior volunteers! We are looking for senior citizens, living within the school district, who would be willing to come and talk to a group of students about their history, passions, and life. The coffee talks would last roughly an hour and topics should be appropriate for a school environment. Seniors with questions or those who are interested in learning more about this program should contact Crider as soon as possible.

This seems like a wonderful idea. Because the real estate market has kept a number of seniors in their homes in the district we have a great pool of talent and experience to call upon. My kids' grandparents are out of state and I'm sure they're not alone.
