Dalton named a 2013 “Top Rated Lawyer in Land Use and Zoning” by American Lawyer Media

Daniel P. Dalton, co-founder of the law firm Dalton & Tomich, plc, has been named as a “2013 Top Rated Lawyer in Land Use and Zoning,” by American Lawyer Media, and will be recognized in the March issue of the American Lawyer & Corporate Counsel magazine.

American Lawyer Media teamed with Martindale-Hubbell™, the leading directory of attorneys in the U.S., to identify the top lawyers across the country in their respective areas of practice. Attorneys were selected based on legal ability and the General Ethical Standards rating, adherence to a professional standard of conduct and ethics, and other factors such as reliability and diligence. Dalton has been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in the area of land use and zoning since 2008,a “top lawyer” by dBusiness since 2009 and was named one of the top 25 Leaders in the Law in the State of Michigan in 2010.

Dalton concentrates his practice in land use and zoning, banking, and business law and is among the nation’s most well regarded land use attorneys. He has won landmark land use and zoning cases for clients across the country, including several precedent-setting decisions on behalf of religious organizations under the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act, commonly known as RLUIPA, in California, Illinois, Michigan, Texas and Pennsylvania. In 2012, Dalton secured a $1.1 milion verdict on behalf of the Academy of Our Lady of Peace in San Diego, the largest RLUIPA trial verdict ever in federal court.

He frequently lectures and writes on issues related to the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA) and other land use and zoning matters.

His annual update on RLUIPA was recently published in The Urban Lawyer, a journal of the American Bar Association.
