Detroit Mothers Partner to Support Children Impacted by Hurricane Sandy
Elyse Cohen and Amy Haenick Join Forces to Raise Funds for Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.)
DETROIT – Detroit mothers, Elyse Cohen and Amy Haenick, have come together to raise funds for Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.) Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief Fund. What began as a project to teach their own children about the importance of philanthropy is now becoming a much larger effort to help victims of Sandy in New York through K.I.D.S.
Thanks to “K.I.D.S. Hurricane Sandy” bracelets donated by Statewide Disaster Restoration Inc., Elyse and Amy have sold hundreds of bracelets to local students and parents, already raising $2,300 for K.I.D.S. This donation of $2,300 will enable K.I.D.S. to provide children and families with over $23,000 worth of basic essentials, such as clothing, shoes, and baby products! For every $1 donated to K.I.D.S., they are able to provide needy children and families with $10 worth of merchandise.
Elyse and Amy will be selling bracelets at Westborn Market on Woodward in Royal Oak this Saturday and Sunday starting at 10 a.m. If you are interested in selling these bracelets in your store on behalf of K.I.D.S. please call 248-310-5666.
K.I.D.S. Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts:
Immediately after the storm hit, K.I.D.S. mobilized its resources to respond to the critical needs of children and families in affected communities. Through combined efforts, and in partnership with local social service agencies, K.I.D.S. has already distributed $3 million worth of apparel, baby products, home goods, diapers, books and toys to children severely impacted by the storm.
As David Coleman, K.I.D.S’ Interim President states: “Whether it’s addressing the day-to-day challenges of poverty and homelessness, or taking action at a moment’s notice to address the needs of children and families who are struck by a natural disaster like Sandy, it’s been K.I.D.S. mission for 27 years to offer hope and let people know someone cares”.
