In its final season as a program, the Bloomfield Hills Lahser Lady Knights Girls Swim/Dive Team swam to an overall second place finish at the MHSAA (Michigan High School Athletic Association) Division 3 State Championships held Nov. 16 - 17 at Eastern Michigan University.
In the 12-event meet attended by 48 high schools from throughout lower Michigan, Lahser claimed three event titles, one relay and two individuals, tying meet champion Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook and 5th place finisher Plainwell for the most event wins at this year's championships.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Ines Charles (junior), Hailey Sambor (junior), Lucy Ramonat (senior) and Mary Pilibosian (junior) repeated as state champions, their time of 1:48.64 just missing the D-3 record time of 1:48.23 that the same group set at last year's championships.
In the 200 IM, Mary Pilibosian became state champion and set a new D-3 state record of 2:07.32 with her first place finish. In the 100 Back, the Lady Knights finished 1-2 with current D-3 record holder Ines Charles repeating as state champion in a time of 56.92 and Mary Pilibosian finishing second.
Additional All-State (Top 8) honors were earned by Ines in the 100 Fly (2nd place) and Hailey Sambor in the 100 Breast (3rd place). Hailey was also a finalist (top 16) in the 200 IM, finishing 13th.
Additional Lahser All-State honors were picked up by the 200 Free Relay team of Doey McGowan (sophomore), Alicia Lew (senior), Annie Reed (sophomore) and Lucy Ramonat (senior) with a 5th place finish. And the 400 Free Relay of Alicia Lew, Ines Charles, Annie Reed and Mary Pilibosian finished All-State in third place.
Other state finalists for Lahser were sophomore Jenny Spiegel (13th place in 200 Free and 13th place in 500 Free), Lucy Ramonat (15th place in 50 Free) and Annie Reed (10th place in 100 Fly). Alicia Lew, Doey McGowan and Annie Reed also had individual swims in the preliminaries as state qualifiers.
Additional state qualifiers that swam/dove in the preliminaries for the Lady Knights were Emily Henderson (freshman), Erica LaCasse (freshman), Lindsey Mutz (freshman), Elizabeth Shults (sophomore), Stephanie Reynolds (senior) and Hannah Ward (senior).
In his 34th and final season coaching at Lahser, Mike Rado was named MHSAA Division 3 Coach of the Year.
The state runner-up finish marks the Lasher Lady Knights' 5th consecutive Top 5 result at the D-3 State Championships as well as their highest team finish in the history of the program.
This is the final season for Lady Knights Swimming and Diving as Bloomfield Hills Lahser and Bloomfield Hills Andover merge to become Bloomfield Hills High School Blackhawks next year.
