Country Day battled, but dropped a 3-2 decision to Oxford on the Wildcat's Senior Night Wednesday at the Rochester Onyx Ice Arena. Oxford scored all three of their goals in the third period.
The Yellowjackets dominated the first period, outshooting the Wildcats 14-5, but left the ice with a 0-0 tie.
In the second period, Country Day again controlled much of the period and scored the only goal on a powerplay. At 12:17, Junior Jake Hartje blistered a shot from the point which was blocked out front of the net. Zach Bensinger picked up the puck and went top shelf for the goal.
Oxford tied up the game 2:08 into the third period. Cody Wright scored from Jimmy Wallington and Henry Isaksson. Country Day came right back on a powerplay. Sebastian Stankiewicz got the puck to the left point where defenseman Nick Martin rifled a shot. Zach Bensinger was in front and deflected the shot past Oxford goalie Adam Pardonoff to make it a 2-1 game.
Four minutes later, Oxford converted on a powerplay of its own. Alex Schlueter scored from Kyle Schnettler and Connor Novack. With 1:28 remaining, Oxford scored the game winner. Brennen Orr found the left side of the net with his shot from the point. Novack and Jon Buday picked up assists.
Nathan Grathwohl made 23 saves in goal for Country Day, while Pardonoff stopped 35.
Country Day's record is now 14-3-2, while Oxford is 9-7-1.
