Football practice is officially under way, and it has all the makings of a memorable season for several schools in the Bloomfield area. While both Andover and Lahser high schools will play their final seasons with the pending merger to Bloomfield Hills High School in 2013, area private schools are looking to continue their strong play for a shot at the playoffs and ultimately, Ford Field in November for the state finals.

To make sure you don't miss a game, here's a look ahead at this year's varsity football schedule for the Brother Rice Warriors and Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets.

Brother Rice

Largely inconsistent through the regular season, the Warriors (5-4) beat some of the best competition in the state during a dramatic, 5-game run to the Division 2 state title in 2011. It was the school's 7th under legendary Head Coach Al Fracassa, who does not appear to be slowing down after winning his 400th game. 

The Warriors open the season in prime time on Saturday against Detroit Cass Tech. in the marquee game of the 2012 Detroit Sports Commission Prep Kickoff Classic. 

Detroit Country Day

The Yellowjackets (7-2) rode a seven-game winning streak into the playoffs last season before falling to Detroit Crockett 13-12 in the first round. The hearbreaking loss was the team's second consecutive postseason defeat to the Rockets, who made it to regionals.
