Andover’s Emerson Misch: May 7-12 Patch Athlete of the Week
Andover’s Emerson Misch tops Birmingham’s Kathy Quigley to extend the streak of baseball players winning the weekly poll to three.
Bloomfield Hills Andover’s Emerson Misch won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for May 7-12, pushing the of baseball players winning the weekly award to three.
The Barons player picked up 505 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 53 percent of the total votes cast.
He edged out Kathy Quigley from Seaholm, who also received strong support. The Maples lacrosse player had 37 percent of the votes (360).
Misch won the title after being a real difference-maker for his Andover team during the week.
He was the offensive standout for the Barson in a 6-1 win over district rival Lahser on May 9 with two hits, two runs and two RBIs.
In two mercy rule wins on last Saturday over Lamphere, Misch hit a homerun and had two RBI in the first game. In the second game, he hit an RBI single.
He also was the winning pitcher in a 10-0, five inning game on May 8, striking out six batters.
Other athletes in the poll included:
Kathy Quigley – Seaholm High School (Lacrosse): Kathy Quigley helped the Birmingham United varsity girls lacrosse team go 3-0 last week, scoring 11 goals and dishing out five assists.
Haley Zemmer – Troy Athens High School (Softball): Haley Zemmer helped the Troy Athens varsity softball team clinch a share of a division title on Wednesday by sweeping a doubleheader over Avondale 9-1 and 14-3 (six innings). She pitched complete games in both wins and striking out 14 batters.
Tess Wilberding – Seaholm High School (Track and Field): Tess Wilberding won two races at the Oakland Activities Association Blue league championships last week to help the Seaholm girls win the meet and its division.
