Andover’s Tim Zobl: Patch Athlete of the Week for April 23-28
Barons’ Tim Zobl tops West Bloomfield’s Allyson Kus in a wild week of voting.
Andover’s Tim Zobl won the Patch Athlete of the Week title for April 23-28 with over 4,000 votes after a week of unscientific polling among Patch readers in Oakland County, or 55 percent of the total votes cast (8,247).
He edged out Allyson Kus from West Bloomfield, who also received strong support. The Lakers starting pitcher had 42 percent of the votes (3,541).
Zobl won after he showed a tremendous amount of power last week for the Barons’ High School baseball team.
In a 10-2 win over Harrison, Zobl went 3-for-3 with a home run. In Game 1 of a doubleheader against Royal Oak on Friday, he went deep again and had two RBI in a 12-5 win.
He picked up where he left off with another homerun this week.
Other athletes in the poll included:
Allyson Kus – West Bloomfield High School (softball): Allyson Kus had another dynamite week for the West Bloomfield High School softball team. She struck out over 30 batters in three wins.
Kamryn LaCarter – Troy High School (softball): “She’s just on fire right now,” Colts coach Tom Calnen said. LaCarter went 6-for-8 in two games with four RBIs and four runs in the two wins. On Monday, she went 7-for-9 in a doubleheader against Adams with seven runs.
T.J. Carey – Lake Orion High School (track and field): T.J. Carey helped the Lake Orion boys track and field team win the Oxford Invitational on Saturday. Carey finished in first place in the 1600 meter run (4:23.42) by just more than a tenth of a second over Utica’s Chris Scott.
