Another Mail Theft Reported; Burglary at Verizon Wireless

The Bloomfield Township Police Department and Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety provided this information. Arrests, where they are mentioned, do not indicate conviction.

Bloomfield Township

Officials with the Bloomfield Township Police Department continue to warn residents about the safety of their incoming and outgoing mail following another report of mail tampering and theft last week. A resident in the 4000 block of Sly Court called police on March 8 after finding his incoming mail opened, and some contents missing, reports said.

Officers asked him to monitor his credit reports and information closely for fraudulent activity. The department issued a warning to residents in December and January as they received a series of mail-theft reports from residents.

$5,000 in phones stolen from Verizon Wireless

Employees at the Verizon Wireless reported several cell phones were taken during a burglary this week, according to police reports. The workers discovered the phones, valued at $5,000, missing when they arrived Tuesday morning, reports said. The burglary occurred sometime overnight, and police said the perpetrator forced entry. No further details were available.

Home generator stolen

Residents in the 6000 block of Wing Lake reported that they discovered the permanent power generator to their home was taken while they were away on winter vacation, reports said. Police said there were no witnesses or reported suspicious activity.

Malicious destruction of property

The passenger-side window of a vehicle was shattered while parked outside of Hogan's Restaurant last week, police reports said. The vehicle owner said the damage occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on March 8. Officers determined the damage was caused by a pellet gun. No suspect information was available and the investigation is ongoing.

Threatening message

A resident of Alice Avenue told police she found a note on her car indicating her tires would be slashed if she parked in the same spot in the residential area, police reports said. The incident occurred at about 11 a.m. March 7. The 44-year-old woman said she was unaware of any conflict or issues with anyone that would have prompted the note.

Bloomfield Hills

A Bloomfield Hills business reported that two checks received from the same customer totalling more than $1,000 bounced this week, and investigators learned they may not be alone.

Employees at the business, located in the 39000 block of Woodward Avenue, called officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety to report the frauds at about 1 p.m. on March 12, reports said. The manager said a customer from West Bloomfield purchased products and service for more than $1,000 in January, and used two personal checks to pay. After both checks bounced, the Manager said he left several voice-mail messages with the customer that they would return them during non-business hours.

Investigators said they learned of at least two other local police agencies with  similar complaints about the individual, and the case remains open.
