Bloomfield's McCready Named 'One to Watch' in 2013
The freshman representative is among six regional "Legislators to Watch" this year, according to Detroiter Magazine, a publication operated by the Detroit Regional Chamber.
He's only been in office for barely a week, officially, but State Rep. Rep. Mike McCready, is already making good impressions in his district and in Lansing. The freshman legislator was recently named one of six area "Legislators to Watch" in 2013 by Detroiter Magazine, a publication operated by the Detroit Regional Chamber.
McCready (R-Bloomfield Hills) was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in November after beating out a crowded field in the GOP primary in August. The former Bloomfield Hills commissioner now represents much of the same district vacated by term-limited representative and Birmingham resident, Chuck Moss.
He represents the 40th district in the House — a "key seat" in the region, the article reads — which includes Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and parts of West Bloomfield.
According to the article, the former small business owner has what it takes to foster economic growth across Metro Detroit.
"A successful small business owner, McCready brings a no-nonsense approach to Lansing focused on creating jobs in Michigan and ensuring taxpayers get measurable results from their elected officials," the article stats.
"Serving a key seat regionally, the Chamber looks forward to beginning a great working relationship with this lifelong Oakland County resident," it adds.
McCready is the principal owner of McCready & Associates, a Birmingham-based firm that distributes office furniture, and was first elected to the Bloomfield Hills City Commission in 2007.
He's also made a good impression among local leaders, including Bloomfield Hills Schools Superintendent Rob Glass, who said McCready has listened to concerns about education reform and school funding.
"He's been very open, he's listened and he's been responsive about working with us to sponsor bills," Glass told members of the Bloomfield Hills Board of Education at last week's meeting. "Hats off to him because that’s how you go about it."
Other Michigan legislators that made Detroiter Magazine's list include:
- Sen. Mike Kowall (R-15th District)
- Rep. Tim Greimel (D-Pontiac)
- Sen. Bert Johnson (D-Detroit)
- Rep. Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline)
- Rep. Wayne Schmidt (R-Traverse City)
Do you agree with Detroiter Magazine? Do you think Mike McCready has the experience to foster job creation in Michigan?
