Bloomfield Township Man on Lawnmower Arrested for OWI

Police stopped the 47-year-old Bloomfield Township resident after he tried to leave the Rite Aid parking lot.

 

Bloomfield Township police officers arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of operating a riding lawn mower while intoxicated last week.

Roy Walton, of Bloomfield Township, was arrested without incident outside the Rite Aid store after officers observed him for a few minutes shortly before 10 p.m. on March 22 police reports said. The officers were on patrol when they saw the riding lawn mower parked on the sidewalk in front of the drug store. They waited for the owner to leave the store stopped him as he drove away out of the parking lot.

The mower was impounded by police.

Authorities arriagned Walton by video the following day on one count of felony operating a vehicle while intoxicated because he has prior convictions for drunken driving on his record, police said. He was released on a $25,000 personal bond. A court date is pending.
