Controversy Swirls About Matt Bomer and 50 Shades of Grey Film
Actor may be too gay to play Christian Grey, says one best-selling author, but some Bloomfield Patch readers disagree.

The debate over who should play Christian Grey in the screen adaptation of E L James' sizzling best seller 'Fifty Shades of Grey' has taken a controversial turn.
Bret Easton Ellis, author of "American Psycho," is generating a lot of buzz for comments about actor Matt Bomer's possible selection to play the lead role in an upcoming film, the Huffington Post reports.
The openly gay actor that had ladies swooning in this summer's "Magic Mike" movie about male strippers is an "absolutely ludicrous" choice, Ellis declared.
"Okay I'll say it. Matt Bomer isn't right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay. He's great for other roles but this is too big a game," Ellis tweeted, according to HuffPo.
Out of the running as a possible screenwriter for the movie, rights for which were recently sold to major Hollywood studios, Ellis continued explaining his rationale on social media.
"I think Matt Bomer is incredibly handsome and a good actor but I think he comes off totally gay in White Collar. And that is why no to CG...," he Tweeted again later, HuffPo reported.
In our Who Will Play Christian Grey And Anastasia? Poll, readers picked Alexander Skarsgard and Lily Collins for the leads (20 percent), followed by Colin Egglesfield and Amanda Seyfried (17 percent). But a vast majority (36 percent) preferred other actors and left 161 suggestions in the comments section.

Sexuality is not the point in 50 shades! Dominance and power dynamics ... A deep connection between people beyond words. Could be between gay lovers or straight.. Matthew Bomer has the ingredients interpersonally and appeals to men and women! What more can you want! Gay friends think Christian grey is hot so what's the prob with Matt?!?! Bring him on baby!!

Matt Bomer fits Christian Grey's exact description. From the curly hair to the dark grey eyes, even down to the body structure; he is a perfect match. What people fail to understand is that your sexuality doesn't affect anything. He is a fantastic actor, from White Collar to Magic Mike, and he can pull off ANY ROLE. If I recall, in Magic Mike, Dallas (Matthew Mcconaughey) even asks Ken (Matt Bomer) to perfrom the S&M part. So, even in oher flms, he is recognized to be well suited for that genre! He has the mystery, the glare, the charm, the look and is CHRISTIAN GREY.
I HAVE READ AND RE-READ THESE BOOKS, AND I PICTURE HIM IN EVERY SCENE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PICK MATT BOMER!!

Matt Boomer is the ONLY choice for Christian Grey. He is sexy and drop dead gorgeous. I don't think he comes off as gay - just way better looking than any of the other contenders. Ryan Gosling is really cute - but the story calls for a man in the book - that is utterly beautiful and Matt Boomer totally fits the bill - he's not gay like at all in my book. Bring him on! Drooling for Matt!

NNNOOO!!!! not Matt Bomer!! I had heard something a while back about Joe Manganiello was be tossed around for the role. He is definitely the perfect man for the role. He has the hair, the eyes and sex appeal for this role. My vote is for Joe!!

Matt Bomer is great, he even has that intense stare that Christian has, but the fact tat he's gay takes me away from the idea of him being Christian. Nothing hateful about it, you could be the best actor in the world, but if I know you're gay in real life while you're trying to portray a heterosexual sex fiend, it's not going to do anything to impress me.

Matt Bomer would be fantastic in this role. When he was in the movie `In Time` with Justin Timberlake, I had no idea he was gay. Same with White Collar! It came as a shock to me but it does not take away from the fact that he is an incredible actor. He has those amazing blue expressive eyes and is a sensitive actor. Great body too.
