Bloomfield area residents and their four-legged friends turned out Sunday at Andover High School to support an initiative to save animals' lives.

The Tails for Tails dog walk was a "huge success" that raised more than $3,000 for Almost Home Animal Rescue, according to organizer Erin Weingarten.

Weingarten, a sophomore, created the fund-raiser as part of her MYP project to help the no-kill animal shelter located in Southfield and West Bloomfield. She also established a Website that accepts donations anytime. All checks should be made payable to Andover High School and write Andover Helping Animals in the memo section. All contributions are tax deductible.

Her program will undoubtedly save lives of animals being cared for by Almost Home Animal Rescue. Erin is indeed a thoughtful and powerful advocate for a greater quality of life for animals within our community.
