Local Realtor, Couple Featured on HGTV's 'House Hunters' Tonight

Meredith Myers Kulka of Cranbrook Associates will try to find first-time buyers their dream home in the Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield area in 10 p.m. episode.

Michigan's housing market will be in the spotlight tonight as real estate agents from a local firm try to find a pair of teachers their dream home on HGTV's House Hunters.

The show, which airs daily at 10 p.m. on the cable network, gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the buying process and focuses on the emotional experience of finding and purchasing a home.

Tonight's episode features Meredith Myers Kulka of Birmingham-based Cranbrook Associates as she tries to find the "perfect" home for teachers Rick and Colleen, according to the show's website. The couple rents in Royal Oak, and wanted to be in the ideal home for the rest of their lives before they married late last year. Their search took roughly eight months before they found a home in Metro Detroit that was close enough for their daily commutes to Livonia and Rochester, respectively.

"Their situation was a little different than the typical first-time home buyer that's looking for a place to live for five to seven years," Myers Kulka said. "They're both tenured teachers and know where they're going to be and what they're salaries are going to be relatively. So they we're looking for their dream home."

Kulka seems up to the task. The Birmingham resident grew up in Bloomfield Hills and graduated from Lahser High School and Michigan State University. She is also a licensed CPA and has sold real estate professionally since 1999, according to the company's website.

She didn't want to give away too many details, but said the couple did find most of what they were looking for and had a great time filming.

"They did five full days of filming, so it will be interesting to see what they crammed into a 30-minute show," Myers Kulka said. "It was a lot of fun."

Can't tear yourself away from something else at 10 p.m. or set the DVR? No problem, HGTV will rebroadcast the entire show at 1 a.m. Thursday.

8 months of looking for a home, but only 5 days of filming?? So this shows that House Hunters is not really what people think. These people have already purchased the home when we're watching the episode. They are pretending to be interested in the other homes, but they've already purchased the one they pick at the end.

It was fun to see Red Coat Tavern, Duggan's and some of the in town places featured, but why would any couple want to move away from Royal Oak? It's the best family town in Oakland county and it's close to the freeways. I think they'd have gotten more for the money in Royal Oak. I could be prejudiced. RO's been OK for my family for five generations.

I thought the show was great. The couple was nice and relatable and I thought that Meredith did a good job and looked great on TV. I enjoyed the scenes around town, as well.

Jan---because one of the buyers works in Livonia and doesn't want to commute 30 minutes a day?

Royal Oak is much closer to freeways than Bloomfield Hills, so the commute time should be shorter. The other buyer would be going to and from Rochester when the heavy traffic is going the other way. I just like Royal Oak better, but it's my home town.
