On July 14, Roeper will host a "Make a Splash Roeper" pool party at the school's lower school campus in Bloomfield Hills. All proceeds from the event, taking place from 2-5 p.m., will benefit Roeper's Make a Splash program, held at the school every summer.
Created in 2007, the Make a Splash program is a national child-focused water safety initiative of the USA Swimming Foundation, catering specifically to low-income families and minorities. According to a research survey sponsored by the program, six out of 10 African American and Latino children in the U.S. are unable to swim.
Since its inception, Make a Splash has helped more than 300,000 children across the country learn how to swim, a press release for the organization states.
Last year, more than 70 children from Metro Detroit attended Roeper's Make a Splash program, doubling the overall attendance from 2010.
The Make a Splash pool party costs $5 per person or $20 per family. Swimming lessons as part of the Make a Splash program begin in August. For more information, call 248-203-7300.
