Opening Ceremony Highlights, from Michigan Athletes and Fans

Our state's Olympians got involved in the social media frenzy of the kickoff to the London games.

They've been tagged the "Social Games," and the Michigan athletes got right into it during and after the opening ceremonies on Friday.

"Had a great time! Was an amazing experience! USA, USA, USA,!" tweeted Claressa Shields, the Flint boxer.

Canton swimmer Allison Schmitt posted photos of herself in the Ralph Lauren Team USA attire.

And gymnast Jordan Wieber tweeted that she was watching, on TV, with teammates; she competes on Sunday.

Here, via Storify, we've gathered a collection of YouTube videos, Twitter tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram photos — mostly from or about Michigan athletes — from the opening ceremonies.

It is very disappointing that NBC cut the entire tribute to the victims of the 7/7 bombings in London. The bombings happened the day after the accouncment that London was to host the games. It was a very moving & emotional tribute and an important part of the night, but the American public was denied that. I don't understand why? Please post the clip that NBC cut, people should be able to see it.
