Move over, Jordan almonds. Brides and grooms want to give their guests a memorable gift that will last beyond the day after the big day.

Companies offering the latest in wedding mementos will have displays at the Joe Cornell 10th Annual Event Planning Expo, held Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center, 6600 W. Maple in West Bloomfield. 

Here are several crowd-pleasers you'll see at the event:

Photos with flair

Photo booths have become a popular feature at wedding receptions. In addition to taking pictures, the booth can also take care of the favors. 

With a package from Infinity Photobooth of Clawson, guests pose for pictures in groups of up to 12 people.  Each person then gets a photo strip with a custom-designed logo commemorating the wedding. 

“The reason this makes such a wonderful favor is that it also doubles as entertainment,” says Izumi Mason of Infinity Photobooth.  “It captures the fun you’re having. And people rarely throw away photos of themselves.” 

The bride and groom can give the picture strip alone, or choose a picture frame or bookmark sleeve to hold the photo as a keepsake. The couple receives a memory book with a copy of every photo as a memento of their wedding, and images are made available on-line to share with guests or post on social media sites.

Michigan-made candles

Long after the wedding toasts have ended, scented candles can bring back memories of the day. Davisburg Candle Factory makes custom candles of all kinds for weddings, including scented candles to match the theme or season of the wedding.

“If they have a fall wedding, we have lots of options – pumpkin pie or mulled cider scents, and cinnamon is popular,” said Phoebe Bojanzyk. “For spring, we’ve done lilac, wisteria, lily of the valley.”

Couples can package the candles however they wish and include a note for a personal touch.

For out of town guests          

In addition to offering custom-printed mugs and cups for favors at the reception, Perfect Trading Company in Bloomfield Township also sells a one-of-a-kind keepsake: personalized pillow cases for out of town guests. 

“The guests show up at the hotel and find a pillow case printed with the itinerary for the wedding weekend,” said Brian Klayman of Perfect Trading.  “On the other side, it glows in the dark and says, 'Sweet dreams'. Thank you for sharing our day with us.’”
