Police Blotter: Parolee Caught Shoplifting $1,000 in Alcohol; Intruder Flees Bloomfield Hills Home

Bloomfield Township

Purse snatching suspect arrested in Southfield

A woman who allegedly took a purse from a shopper at the Bloomfield Township last week was recently arrested in Southfield, according to police reports.

Bloomfield Township police officers responded to the store at about 2:30 p.m. April 21 after a woman reported her purse was taken from her shopping cart while she was distracted. No suspect information was available.

However, officers received a call from Southfield Police the following day, saying they had arrested a 37-year-old woman for a similar incident in their jurisdiction. At the time of her arrest, the woman was carrying the purse taken in the Bloomfield Township incident, reports said. The purse was returned and it was unclear from reports whether anything was missing. Charges in the Southfield incident are pending.

Recent parolee caught stealing alcohol at Costco

A 45-year-old Waterford man is likely facing felony charges for stealing more than $1,000 worth of alcohol from , police reports said.

Bloomfield Township police officers responded to the store at about 2:30 p.m. April 21 after store security detained the man allegedly trying to steal again. Reports said he was suspected of stealing seven bottles of alcohol over a three-day span.

Officers transported the man to the Bloomfield Township Police Department, where a records check showed the man was recently paroled from prison for undisclosed crimes. He was booked and taken to the Oakland County Jail for holding at the request of the Michigan Department of Corrections. Formal charges for first-degree retail fraud are pending, reports said.

Resident reports identity theft

A resident reported that his personal information was fraudulently used to purchase a vehicle in another state. The man contacted police at about noon April 19 and reported that he discovered someone used his personal information to secure a $75,000 loan through PNC Bank last fall. Those funds were later used to purchase a 2011 Infinity in Fort Wayne, IN, reports said. The victim told officers he believed the information may have been compromised during an extended hospital stay in 2011.

Bloomfield Hills

Woman reports home invasion

A Bloomfield Hills woman said a stranger entered her home at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday and fled, prompting a K-9 unit sweep of the neighborhood, according to police reports.

Officers with the responded to the 1000 block of Tiverton Road after the woman called 911 to report the home invasion in progress. She said she heard someone enter the home and called out thinking it was another member of her household. When someone else answered, she quickly locked her bedroom door and called police, reports said.

Police searched the home and neighboring area with the assistance of a K-9 unit from the Royal Oak Police Department, but did not find the intruder. No suspect description was available.
