Vote Now: Bloomfield Hills Athlete of the Fall Season

Vote from a list of very deserving candidates on who should be named the Patch Athlete of the Season for Bloomfield.

There were a lot of great individual performances from high school athletes in Bloomfield Hills area this fall and we want to hear from our readers which one they thought was the best.

Here are the candidates:

Mary Henry (senior, Marian volleyball) – Henry was a finalist for the Miss Volleyball award in her senior year. As the Mustangs setter, she pushed her all-time assist total to over 5,000 this season. Henry signed a letter of intent to play college volleyball at Duquesne University.

Jaynie Pulte (senior, Marian swimming) – Pulte had a tremendous year for the Mustangs picking up an individual championship in the 50-yard freestyle and All-State honors in the 100-yard butterfly. It was the second consecutive season she won the Division 1 50-yard freestyle and her time of 23.23 was a new record. Pulte signed a letter of intent to swim at Stanford.

Elena Miller (junior, Lahser cross country) – Elena Miller helped the Knights qualify for the state finals as a team and helped the girls win the Oakland County Championships. She finished 43rd at the state finals and 11th place at the County Championships. The junior earned all-county, all-league and all-region honors, as well as individual academic all-state honors by having a 3.8 grade point average or higher and finishing in the top half of the finals race.

Devin Church (senior, Brother Rice football) – Church led Brother Rice High School to a Division 2 championship this year with over 240 yards in the finals and he racked up over 900 yards in the playoffs. He also set a new single season rushing record for the Warriors this season. Church earned a full scholarship to Northern Illinois to play football.

Sarah Kilbride (sophomore, Andover girls swimming) – As just a sophomore, Kilbride qualified for the state finals early in the season in two events – the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley. She finished 19th in both races at the Division 2 finals with a 1:10.39 in the 100-yard breaststroke and a 2:16.10 200 yard individual medley.

Will Neef (senior, Andover soccer) – Neef was the leading scorer with 15 goals this season on a Barons team that made a run all the way to the state semifinals. He scored goals in both regional games, including the game-winner against Trenton in the regional finals, and the semifinal game against Avondale.

Rishi Patel (sophomore, Detroit Country Day tennis) – As the No. 3 singles for the Yellowjackets, Patel won the individual championship in Division 3 in two sets (6-1, 6-1) over the top seed Mike Kincaid from St. Joseph. The freshman breezed through the tournament and didn’t lose a single set.

Tariq Akeel (senior; Detroit Country Day soccer) – One of the top soccer players in the state of Michigan helped Country Day reach and win the Division 3 soccer finals this season. Akeel was the leading scorer on team with 12 goals and also had 10 assists this season. The senior will play soccer at Brown next year.

Please include Lahser Swimming sophomore Ines Charles as a candidiate for Bloomfield Hills Athlete of the Fall Season. Ines placed first and became individual champion in both the 100 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke events at the D-3 State Swimming Championships. She was also part of the 200 Medley Relay team for Lahser that placed first and earned state champion and All-America consideration status. Finally, Ines' backstroke time at the State Championships set a new Lahser school record.

I second that^^^^ As her older teammate, I watched her strive at states and was a part of her 3 state championship wins. She deserves the world; and she has 2 more years to improve even more. The medley relay, which she was apart of,also broke a 28 year old Lahser record, the longest standing record we have. Thank you and please consider Elena Miller and Ines Charles for this honor.

How did this kid get over 2000 votes overnight? That doesn't seem right to me. Is automated voting allowed?

Thanks to everyone that submitted votes to this poll during the past week. The enthusiasm, commitment and school spirit you've shown has been remarkable and is a testament to the pride and loyalty fostered by each institution. Though Patch is relatively new to this community, the number of votes is certainly unprecedented for a Bloomfield-MiPatch poll, and we do appreciate it. That said, the voting surges in the past few days has made it clear that some have found a way to take advantage of the system to support their chosen athlete.
Rather than close the voting down with just hours remaining, we ask that readers try to be fair and vote only once per visit to the site for the remainder of today. Voting will close at 9 p.m.

Will you be only using one vote per computer per day? Seems only fair.

i have played with Will Neef but also played against Tariq Akeel. Akeel is by far much more talented. Tariq is going to attend the university of brown. He is one of the top players i have ever played with or against. he is a true star and hopefully will do great at Brown.

When Andover played Detroit Country Day they beat them 2 to 1. Will Neef scored the two goals. It was a great team effort from the ANDOVER team!! On top of that Will has overcome what many players haven't had to deal with. He has lead the team on and off the field and is very well respected at Andover High School

this poll is not about what happened in his past. It is about whose the better athlete during the high school fall soccer season. I have played with/against these two fine athletes. i am not just saying Akeel is better. He truly is. no disrespect.
