Power Outages Impacting Roughly 3,000 Residents in Bloomfield
DTE Energy estimates the outage could last well into the weekend, if not all weekend long for some portions of Bloomfield.
More than an estimated 3,000 residents of Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township remain without power this afternoon and may need to get used to it. The heavy storms that ripped through Oakland County and much of Metro Detroit Thursday morning caused enough damage that full power restoration may not be possible until late Saturday or even Sunday, DTE Energy officials said.
"It looks like we won't be back to normal until late Saturday night,"DTE spokeswoman Eileen Dixon said Thursday afternoon. "But, that's based on the premise we're not going to get any more bad weather. ... All of our crews are working 16-hour shifts, and they're working around the clock."
As of early Thursday afternoon, 210,000 customers in southeast Michigan are still without power – an increase from 190,000 this morning due to storms that moved through the area.
Power was knocked out to roughly 1,600 residents late Wednesday and nearly doubled due to downed lines.
"We've got more than 1,000 power lines down," in southeast Michigan, Dixon said. "It's a big job ahead of us."
The largest areas impacted in Bloomfield Township continue to be west of Telegraph Road between Lone Pine and Maple roads, and Lone Pine and Hickory Grove roads. In Bloomfield Hills, the power is out in the area east of Woodward Avenue near Long Lake, according to the DTE Outage Map.
Both the 48th District Court and Bloomfield Township Senior Service Center were closed Thursday due to the outage. Meals on Wheels services will still continue as scheduled, but there is no estimated opening time for the center. Residents are encouraged to call 248-723-3500 for updates.
The power outages coincide with a heat wave that has enveloped southeast Michigan for days. An excessive heat warning remains in effect for Bloomfield and much of Oakland County until 9 p.m. Friday.
Dixon said DTE has recalled 100 linemen who were sent to Ohio to help with repairs after storms there last week.

What a foul and inflammatory comment to make about bloomfield residents and their neighbors. It's sour attitudes of this kind that are tearing our country apart.

Bless those workers out in this heat trying to restore all our power. I was only thinking of how this affects families and homeowners until I read this article. Thinking about them trying to work in this crazy heat breaks my heart for them! My son's 4th birthday will be affected by the outage, but we are lucky to have someplace cool with our family members to retreat to. A huge thank you to the workers out there braving this heat to work on restoring our power. Be safe and many many blessings. This weekend you will be heros to many!!!
