Organizers of the Second Annual Yoga By Design Yogathon over the Labor Day holiday said this year's event was a success that raised $12,500 for instructors that practice healing yoga in Metro Detroit.

The two-day event drew 150 people to Karma Yoga and three other yoga studios in Michigan, as well as two studios out of state, said Yoga By Design Foundation Founder Lynn Medow.

Last year's inaugural event, which was only for one day, raised drew 131 people to nine consecutive classes and raised $10,000. The funds went to three local groups for yoga classes to help autistic children, fight childhood obesity and individuals with Downs Syndrome.

Plum Market and Acupuncture Healthcare Associates co-sponsored the event, which also included a 17-item silent auction that generated additional funds this year, Medow said.
