What Do You Say About Right-to-Work Legislation?
With the big vote in Lansing scheduled for Tuesday on proposed right-to-work legislation, now's the time to voice your opinion on Bloomfield Patch.
If you've even remotely paid attention to recent politics in Michigan, you know that big decisions are looming before legislators head home for the holidays. If you've even remotely paid attention to Bloomfield Patch bloggers over the past few weeks, you know that much of the criticisms of and concerns about Gov. Rick Snyder's and the State Legislature have to do with public education reform.
But what about the proposed right-to-work legislation that has the potential to drastically change Michigan's pro-union culture after decades? We'd like to know what you think, and invite you to share it with others on Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Patch.

There is nothing wrong with having a choice and that is why this legislation must be passed.

Applying for a job as a free American and working as a free American is everyones right. Having your life taken over without your knowledge, will or consent by an organized labor union, forced to pay them dues and live by their rules as a lifetime member...just because you want a job...is a as un-American as you can get. An employee need only live by the rules and honor the expectations of his employer...not this side group who wants to "own you." (communist activity in a free country is a no-go.)

Right To Work must be passed - especially as it impacts public sector unions, which have no business existing in the first place. Government employees should not be negotiating compensation and outrageous retirement benefits with the ones they help get elected. These benefits are hidden from view and strangle the taxpayer and crowd out other worthy programs. Private sector unions should be allowed to bankrupt companies (ala GM and Hostess) but not public sector ones. They just cause tax increases and millage hikes. This must be stopped. Prop 2 brought all of this on, so public sector unions are getting what they deserve.

As a teacher with my BA and MA I merely make 20,000 a year and it takes my voice and union to do that. I cannot imagine what this will do to me, my job, and my family.

It will do nothing negative to you Rebecca. What it will do is allow you to progress in your position based on your abilities. Besides look at the extra money you'll put in your pocket by not paying union dues. Why do you want a disinterested 3rd party who has another agenda controlling your work life?

The union folks know they are riding a gravy train on the backs of taxpayers, and they are digging in their heels to make sure the taxpayer "mules" keep pulling their gravy train, fairness be damned.
