Isn't this the way too many jurisdictions have gotten into financial trouble -- using bonds toRead More finance expenses rather than restricting them to long lived assets? Perhaps the pensions need to be reformed rather than "reforming" their financing. Are we taking on added pension obligations for personnel to support services we have "sold" to other jurisdictions?

$60,000 per year pension + free ehalthcare for 30 yrs of retirement = $2,000,000 lifetime retirementRead More benefit! Must be nice to be a public employee.

I was wrong when I predicted that the School District would be asking for more money in two or threeRead More years - by two or three years...... No wonder I didn't get elected to the Board. With such miscalculations on my part, I realize that the majority of the voters had so much more insight than I had........lol Maybe I should learn a lesson here - borrow money to keep the "life-style" I have become used to. What genius!

I thought the cute little mouse was from Oklahoma looking around the ground at the sticks that usedRead More to be his city, then I noticed the pencil.

Couldn’t agree more! There’s often a silver lining in every dark cloud, though it may beRead More difficult to see at the time. http://troy.patch.com/blog_posts/no-maverick-molecules-brain-tumor-and-depression Sometimes you can see blessings in hindsight; God’s faithfulness in bringing you through difficult times. He is faithful even if He chooses not to heal you on earth.

Harry, You may get farther with your point by not insulting people. My initial reaction was that itRead More was too soon since they came off the endangered list. However, after reading several articles and interviews with folks in the UP, they are having serious problems since the wolves have recovered.I think this article was probably what made me see a need to control the numbers. http://www.freep.com/article/20130428/SPORTS10/304280087/outdoors-lydia-lohrer-who-determines-wildlife-fate Having said that, I'm still concerned that we may just go hog wold and kill all of them again, some can't resist a trophy. There really needs to be a sane approach by experts and not politicians and people. Experts in wildlife management.

Neal, as a Veteran I get the point that votes need to be heard, more than most. In this caseRead More though, and after having seen lobbyists bombarding drunk women in casino bathrooms for signatures I simply feel that this issue in particular is another attempt of the vocal minority to make a stand against reason. These days we have to pick our spots because there's big problems everywhere. Aside from the questionable tactics I feel that this issue is going to be managed effectively at the end of the story. Nobody is calling for the wholesale slaughter of the wolves. That said, if the cost of the population has more impact on humans in terms of attacks on livestock, pets and humans as has been happening, you can expect that these wolves will be dealt with one way or another. It's better to raise funds via hunting so that those funds create more resources towards proper management of the wolves than to leave it in the hands of justifiably angry residents with no recourse but to break the law. Sorry for the insults, I'm just tired of all the half-cocked reactions to everything with a conservative signature being turned into a whipping post for liberals. People like that don't really care about the issues, they just want to spread ignorance and hate and frankly I'm more than a little tired of the vocal minority.

Harry: I appreciate your service as a veteran. Please do bear in mind that the point is how theRead More citizenry is being denied their rights in a calculated method intended to cut their exercise off. Your commentary about wolves is what it is. I'd really like to see an even handed study by people not connected with the hunting/farming lobbies so we really know what makes sense. Stopping the people of the state from making a decision to hunt wolves doesn't mean population control for the wolf population is off the table--maybe it just shouldn't be done by recreational hunting. The process of what is going on in Lansing is not a liberal or conservative one. It is about cutting off peoples' rights if they disagree with your agenda. It is incredibly dangerous to our democracy and the fabric of our society. Currently it is being practiced by Republicans but that doesn't mean the Democrats are incapable of kind of behavior. Any elected official of either party doing this should be turned out of office regardless of what your views are of their other actions. There's no reason a conservative official doing this can't be replaced by an ethical conservative who respects our democracy and its institutions.

And last summer reporter Karen Drew and a camera man sat and watched a custodian from Warren SchoolsRead More ( a 30 something year vet ) have a few beers in a bar, waited for him to get in his car and then called the police on the man and he was promptly arrested for drunk driving and lost his job and benefits. I totally agree what he did was wrong, but she could of confronted the gentleman as he was going to his car and got her story there. Instead, she let him drive drunk to get a better story.

What he did was horrible and against the law but if he has taken full responsibility for it and doesRead More not do this again then he deserves forgiveness.....we all make mistakes with the hopes of learning from them and moving on. It may follow him for a long time but no one deserves criticism forever.
Scott June 1, 2013 at 12:27 pm
He was stupid for doing what he did, but we all make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. ThereRead More ia no point in demonizing. A simple solution would be to install breathalyzer devices in the vehicles of those convicted of drunk driving as one of their sentences. But, the State will never go for it because the drunk driving business is a huge revenue generator and cash is king.

So if I read this correctly “This is absolutely gendered violence” this law is writtenRead More strictly for women to persecute men? Way to go HAVEN My ex-wife assaulted me with nails to the face, a failed kick to the groin and spastic attempts to punch and claw me followed by slamming our daughters arm in a door. I grabbed her by her neck to subdue her. she called her mother (who coincidentally railroaded her ex with false accusations and stole his business) to call 911. I ended up in jail, divorced (at her command), robbed of my children, stuck with the bills, forclosed on and a $1700.00 a month stipend for child support which she used for a house, a hummer , an expedition and who knows what? Men in this state need to unite and recognize groups like HAVEN are focused towards the destruction of Michigan families through one-sided laws written for pre-determined guilt. I’m not saying strangling anyone shouldn’t be a felony but when HAVEN feminists are the lobbyists for these things and smugly proclaim that “MEN ARE THE ONLY GUILTY PARTY” it drives the gears in Michigans failed family courts towards a means to an end for women to opt out of marriage at any time for any reason (Like my ex) and simply make an accusation that’s so loaded with focused animosity towards the accused that we MEN stand no chance. The police will not ask for proof of being strangled, they will simply say “I can see the marks” just so they can put someone away and diffuse the situation.

Wow, Angry Harry, you sure do live up to your name.

After reading what happened to Angry, I can't say that I blame him. When a woman grows tired of youRead More in this state, she can have you thrown out of your home, your children taken away and most of your earnings confiscated. She needs no proof to take out a personal protection order against you. He choked me officer, he hit me, he was yelling at me, he beat the kids. No one cares about the man or believes his side on anything, certainly not the Police or Friend of the Court. FOC are in place to suck out your life force, leaving you with barely enough energy/money to get up in the morning and go to work, if you didn't lose your job due to the antics of the woman. I do side with Angry Harry.

Melody, Thank you for the compliment. I am a father to 3 sons, and I can not imagine the heartacheRead More your whole family must feel, and I am truly sorry for your loss. What Greg & Missy have done since Kelsey's death is truly heroic, and I am determined to do my part, and help make Michigan the 11th state to adopt the Kelsey Smith Act. For those following Kelsey's story, yesterday, West Virginia became the 10th state to adopt theRead More Kelsey Smith Act. I can also say that State Representative Kurt Heise, who represents Plymouth Township, has shown interest in the Kelsey Smith Act. I spoke with both Greg and Missy Smith today, and they are going to send me the exact wording of the Kelsey Smith Act to be forwarded on to Mr. Heise for review. I would like to thank Mr. Heise for his time in reading about Kelsey, and his quick response to my emails. We will get this done.

I trust in Founders. They make some delicious beers and will represent Michigan well. I'm leaningRead More towards the Wheat IPA for my vote! Which one sounds best to you?
