Updated: Bentivolio Wins 11th Congressional Race

Taj conceded the race Wednesday morning.

Some results are still trickling in, but Democrat Syed Taj conceded the race for Michigan's 11th Congressional District to Republican Kerry Bentivolio Wednesday morning.  "It goes without saying that I am disappointed in last night's results. However, I am not disappointed in the campaign that we have ran in the 11th. We faced a tough map and in spite of this disadvantage worked our district hard and left nothing on the table," Taj said in a statement. Bentivolio spoke to a group of supporters just before midnight Tuesday at his election party at the Sheraton in Novi, thanking them for their support. "We're going to go to Washington, and we're going to represent the 11th District like it's never been represented before," he said. As of …

It's worth stating that Dr Taj did extraordinarily well considering the demographic of the district and the fliers that were mailed claiming his affiliation with Marxists. Crazy.   more ›

Bloomfield Elections 2012: Turnout Approaches Nearly 80 Percent in City and Township

"This was a big election and we just didn't stop going," Bloomfield Township Clerk Jan Roncelli said.

It started with long lines even before poll workers arrived in some locations, and ended with the sorting of some 13,000 absentee ballots. By the time polls closed Tuesday, more than 30,000 voters between both Bloomfield Hills and Bloomfield Township cast ballots in the 2012 general election. More than 79 percent of township residents turned out, and the city, at 78 percent, was not far behind. What's New: The Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education will get one new member (Howard Baron), and retain two current members (Ingrid Day and Rob Herner). Bloomfield Hills City Commissioner Mike McCready also earned his ticket to Lansing as the new Representative for the 40th District. What's Not: The current Bloomfield Township Board of …

Bloomfield Township Board Looks to the Future

All seven incumbents earn four more years with ease after uncontested election.

With no opponents at any position on the ballot, there was little drama as results for the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees vote started to come in Tuesday night at Township Hall. But Township Supervisor Leo Savoie did have high praise for the six other Republican members of the board that easily won re-elction. "The group is absolutely tremendous and we're very fortunate to be in a position to know where we'll be tomorrow," Savoie said, speaking about more than just the morning after the election. Since taking over for the retiring Dave Payne in September 2011, Savoie has led the board through a number of commercial development decisions that resulted in a revamped Maple Theater, plans for a Trader Joe's and multiple restaurants. …

Michigan Election 2012: Stabenow Captures Senate Seat

Five of the six statewide ballot proposals were defeated, according to early results.

Voters throughout Michigan chose Barack Obama over Mitt Romney for president, according to early results, and voted no on at least five of the six state proposals. Michiganders also chose incumbent Democrat Debbie Stabenow over Republican challenger Pete Hoekstra for Senate, according to early results. Voter turnout was reported to be high across the state. In 2008, 66.2 percent of Michigan's registered voters cast ballots, the highest number since 1968 when voter turnout was 66.8 percent. On Tuesday, many precincts were still taking ballots well after 8 p.m. to accommodate voters. 1:32 AM: U.S. Rep. John Dingell claimed victory and a record-breaking 30th term in Congress. 12:46 AM: Results are trickling in. Dexter Patch reports Gretchen …

The unions were not entirely blameless. However, to say "the unions killed Hostess" and then somehow blaming that on Obama and/or Obamacare is disingenuous. You did not address how management squandered the millions of investment dollars and union concessions, you did not address the 6 CEOs since 2004 or the pillaging of millions of dollars for raises and golden parachutes for the upper …   more ›

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The campaign Obama won was the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and …

Editor. It is time to close this article down. Its over and no need for cyber arguing about the democrats or republicans. We are one Nation, We are one Country, We are one People. Barack Obama Projected Winner in Michigan

Exit polls show voters backing Barack Obama; national media give the state's 16 electoral votes to the president.

The polls have not been closed long, but based on exit polls results several media organizations have declared President Barack Obama the winner of Michigan's 16 electoral votes on Tuesday, defeating Republican and native son Mitt Romney. NBC, NPR, CNN, the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post all have declared Obama the winner. Media outlets also have called the overall race for Obama. In the 2008 presidential election, the state voted for the Democratic candidate, and in recent elections has voted for the overall winner of the presidential race 3 out of 5 times. Romney and Obama did not campaign aggressively in Michigan. The state has typically been a Democratic stronghold in recent presidential elections.  The economy was a key …

Oakland County Taps Wireless Technology to Expedite Election Results

"We're convinced this will be the fastest Election Night reporting for a presidential election in Oakland County history," Clerk Bill Bullard said Tuesday.

Oakland County on Tuesday was set to become the second county in the United States to tap wireless technology to transmit election results more quickly after the polls close. The analog modems on vote tabulator and absentee ballot counting board machines throughout Oakland County have been upgraded with wireless cellular modems that will allow unofficial results to be transmitted from communities to the county as soon as the polls close at 8 p.m., Oakland County Clerk Bill Bullard said Tuesday. Previously, the memory card in each vote tabulator at each precinct had to be removed manually after election workers finished their paperwork, then taken to Bloomfield Township Hall or Bloomfield Hills City Hall for the results to be uploaded and …

Oakland County GOP Continues Final Push on Election Day

Representatives and volunteers from both parties are knocking on doors and making calls to spur turnout for the Nov. 6 election.

From the outside, the Oakland County Republican Party Headquarters in Bloomfield Hills looks like just about any other Woodward Avenue office building with challenged parking on a busy day. The abundance of eye-catching candidate yard signs on the leaf-covered lawn facing the road's south side are a giveaway of the mission, and inside, teams of volunteers have been working for weeks to make today a success. And they aren't stopping. Much like last week when a frenzy of high-profile campaign visits including former GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and Michigan senatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra, the headquarters — now better known as a Romney-Ryan victory center — is bustling with activity. Volunteers crowded around tables with …

When Will Presidential Election 2012 Results Be Announced?

Michigan polls close at 8 p.m., but some precincts elsewhere close earlier, and then there's the West Coast.

So you've cast your ballot, and likely had to wait in some sort of line if you did so in person as turnout appears to be up around Metro Detroit and the nation. But how long will you have to wait to find out who'll be in the White House come January? It might be a late night. Michigan voters have until 8 p.m. Eastern to cast their Election 2012 ballots, but voting in other key swing states ends as much as an hour earlier, and exit polling could provide an early clue whether President Obama or Mitt Romney us closer to the White House. The earliest key state to watch is Virginia, where polls close at 7 p.m. Eastern. Voting ends 30 minutes later in the swing states of Ohio and North Carolina. As Michigan's polls close, the swing states of …
