Bring them to the The Woodward Avenue Action Association's (WA3) three days of interactive community events from May 20-22 at 555 S. Let's say you want to shop at a store on Woodward. You know the name and the address and that it is on the OTHER side of Woodward...but that's it. Trying to drive and glance across the median at the same time to try to find the store is dangerous. I would like to see a system of some sort that easily identifies what ADDRESSES are on the other side of Woodward that could be accessed IF I took that…   more ›

Do You Support a Sales Tax for Online Purchases?

The Marketplace Fairness Act was approved this week in the U.S. Senate, and is headed to the Republican-controlled U.S. House for consideration. Both Michigan's senators voted for the bill, which would require merchants to collect state taxes on internet

Michigan's U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both Democrats, voted in support of a bill that requires merchants to collect state sales taxes for online purchases. The Marketplace Fairness Act passed the U.S. Senate 69-27 on Monday. Next up, the legislation goes to the GOP-led House. President Barack Obama has previously said he supports the bill. Supporters say the bill would level the paying field for traditional local retailers and collect much needed tax revenue for state. Opponents, including anti-tax activists and retailers, say it will be overly burdensome on small businesses and would effectively result in a tax increase. Neither Levin nor Stabenow issued public statements after Monday's vote explaining their support of the…

I wish that would work. I don't believe that it would encourage more thoughtful posts. How would it be monitored or managed it? People have to want to make a difference. There are two choices we all make--will this help the discussion or will it hurt the discussion? I know what I choose, yet I am unable to control what others choose.   more ›

McCready, Republicans Respond to Patterson's Hitler Comment

A host of Michigan legislators asked L. Brooks Patterson to apologize for comparing House Speaker Jase Bolger to Adolf Hitler in a television talk show.

State Rep. Mike McCready, R-Bloomfield Hills, joined a slew of legislators from across the state Friday to address and ask Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson to apologize for comparing House Speaker Jase Bolger to Adolph Hitler. Patterson made the comparison — and held a black comb underneath his nose to symbolize the former Nazi Party leader's signature mustache — during Friday's taping of the 'Off the Record' show. The round-table discussion aired on WKAR and public television affiliates Friday night will air again at usual times on Sunday. Patterson, who is still recovering from injuries suffered in a terrible car crash in August, was a guest on the show to discuss Michigan's no-fault insurance law. The controversial law faces…

Where were these people now asking Brooks Patterson to apologize when they wouldn't let Lisa Brown speak? Sorry, I think Brooks got it right (FWIW I'm not a big Patterson supporter but when he's right he's right). These folks that won't even let people speak should be put out of office.   more ›

McCready Hosts May Office Hours in Bloomfield Township

The freshman member of the State House of Representatives will meet with constituents on the heels of votes on drug testing, and millage funding for the Detroit Zoo and Detroit Institute of Arts.

Do you agree with State Rep. Mike McCready (R-Bloomfield Hills) that welfare recipients should be drug tested and have children that are not truants in order to receive benefits? Do you support his decision on a two-bill package that ensures local municipalities cannot capture millage funds intended for the Detroit Zoo or the Detroit Institute of Arts? McCready, who was elected to represent the 40th District in the State House of Representatives last fall, was among the overwhelming majority of Republican legislators to support each of the bills mentioned above during votes in Lansing this week, according to Michigan Votes. Whether you agree or not, McCready wants to hear from you and invites constituents in the Bloomfield area and …

Why Should Bloomfield Care About Complete Streets?

Could a Woodward Avenue master plan impact home values and businesses in Bloomfield?

The implementation of a Complete Streets master plan along Woodward Avenue would give businesses and homeowners an economic boost, proponents said last week during a series of interactive events in Ferndale. The gatherings were part of the Woodward Avenue Action Association's efforts to collect public input for a Woodward Complete Streets master plan that aims to make the 27-mile stretch of the historic roadway from Detroit to Pontiac more safe, friendly and accessible for users of all modes and abilities. The makeover would encourage economic growth along the entire corridor, Bloomfield Township and Bloomfield Hills included, proponents said. "Spreading commercial districts along a corridor is an outdated suburban planning (strategy)," …

Some Bloomfield Township Water Bills Could Have Errors

The quarterly water and sewer bills mailed out this week may not include usage details.

Some Bloomfield Township residents may be a bit confused by their latest water bill due to a printer error.
