Detroit Country Day School Students Named 2014 National Merit and Achievement Seminfinalists

Twenty-six students recognized as some of the highest scoring entrants in the state.  

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., January 23, 2014 – Detroit Country Day School (DCDS)announced that 26 senior class students were named 2014 National Merit and Achievement Semifinalists and will have the opportunity to compete for approximately 8,000 National Merit Scholarships. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.

“At Detroit Country Day School, we are committed to providing a superior college preparatory education,” said Shilling. “We are incredibly proud of these students for this achievement, which is a true testament to the collaborative educational community that exists between our faculty, students and their families.”

Semifinalists are categorized as the highest scoring entrants in each state. More than 1.5 million junior class students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2012 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. In order to qualify, students must score well on the qualifying test, earn SAT scores that validate their performance on the qualifying test,possess an outstanding academic record throughout high school, and be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal. The finalists’ scholarships will be presented in spring 2014.
