Bloomfield Hills Officers Visit Roeper During Superhero Week

Campers get a glimpse of Bloomfield Hills 'superheroes' during a demonstration Wednesday morning.

Children at the Roeper School Summer Day Camp got a special visit Wednesday from 'real-life' superheroes during 'Superhero week.'

Officers with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety spent the morning discussing fire-safety with campers of all ages and showed off their firefighting equipment, including the department's aerial truck.

Officer Lyle Fleischmann entertained the early-morning crowd of campers and counselors by rotating the extended ladder about 180 degrees to line up with the flag pole on the property. Then he wowed them by climbing up to the end to touch the top of the pole.

All in a day's work for DPS officers — who are cross trained as certified police officers, fire fighters, and medical first responders — under new Chief David Hendrickson, who is encouraging officers to be more visible in the community.

"We want to be out there," he said Wednesday. "There is a lot of other things we could be doing to have a positive impact out there in the community."
