Events To Mark on the December Calendar in and Around Bloomfield

See the BBSO, The Jills at Greenfield Village, and Iron Chef contestants battle it out at the Bloomfield Township Public Library this month.

Believe it or not, November is behind us and there's only four weeks left in 2013. The fun never stops in Bloomfield, and here's a look at some events you might not want to miss.

Menorah Lighting

The annual menorah display in Shain Park started early this year with the first night of Chanukah last Wednesday. The official lighting ceremony, featuring Avy Schreiber and the Pella Ensemble will take place at 5 p.m. Dec. 1, organized by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai Center. Chanukah ends Thursday, Dec. 5. 

Iron Chef Bloomfield III

Young chefs between the ages 8-13 can register for the 3rd annual Iron Chef Bloomfield competition at the Bloomfield Township Public Library from 1–2:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Using an undisclosed secret ingredient, contestants will compete to make the most delicious food possible for our judges. Registration is required by calling the Youth Services Department.

Ladies Night

Enjoy a holiday shopping experience just for the laides in downtown Birmingham from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday Dec. 5. Dozens of merchants will offering either a discount, raffle prizes, appetizers and drinks,  or a token gift or gift basket. A list of all participating merchants and their offerings is on the   Enjoy Birmingham website.   

Birmingham-Bloomfield Symphony Orchestra

Music Director John Thomas Dodson will take the podium with featured guest artist Janet Sung in one of two performances with the BBSO at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Christ Church Cranbrook470 Church Rd. in Bloomfield Hills.

The Jills, Chamber Choir at Greenfield Village

The BHHS Jills and Chamber Choir will perform for audiences at Greenfield Village from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 as part of the Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village program. Visit the district's website or the Henry Ford website for more information.
