Oakland County Executive Puts Out Call for Best of the Best

You have until Dec. 31 to make nominations for L. Brooks Patterson's '40 Under 40.'

Know a mover and shaker in Oakland County? You can nominate that person for the Elite 40 Under 40 initiative developed last year by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

Nominations are due by Dec. 31 at www.AdvantageOakland.com.

Patterson launched the Elite 40 Under 40 last year to identify outstanding professional and executive leaders who have achieved excellence in their field before the age of 40.

Lena Epstein Koretzky, 30, General Manager and Co-Owner, Vesco Oil Corporation; Norman Yatooma, 39, Founder and Attorney, Norman Yatooma & Associates; and Bloomfield Hills native Richard Bernstein, 37, of the Sam Bernstein Law Firm were among the inaugural honorees.

“During our inaugural year of the Elite 40, we learned there are a tremendous number of young individuals who have achieved notable success while living or working in Oakland County,” said Patterson in a press release. “We believe the next class of Elite 40 will be exceptional.”

Patterson seeks nominees who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, initiative and dedication in pursuing their careers and helping their communities. Nominees must be younger than age 40 as of Feb. 7, 2013. They also must be residents of or work in Oakland County.

The deadline to submit nominations is 11:59 PM Saturday, Dec. 31. The judging committee will review the nominations from Jan. 7-28. When the judges choose the 2013 Elite 40 Under 40, they will announce the three finalists so the public can choose the winner by online voting from Jan. 28 – Feb. 1. The winner will be announced at the 2013 State of the County address.

Isn't this the way too many jurisdictions have gotten into financial trouble -- using bonds toRead More finance expenses rather than restricting them to long lived assets? Perhaps the pensions need to be reformed rather than "reforming" their financing. Are we taking on added pension obligations for personnel to support services we have "sold" to other jurisdictions?

With such miscalculations on my part, I realize that the majority of the voters had so much more insight than I had........lol Maybe I should learn a lesson here - borrow money to keep the "life-style" I have become used to. What genius!
