Did Olympic Gold Medalists Meryl Davis and Charlie White Survive Week 2 of ‘DWTS’?

Davis's "swing had wings" and White was so "bad" he was terrific in Week 2 of "Dancing with the Stars."

Olympic ice-dancers turned “Dancing with the Stars” headliners Meryl Davis and Charlie White are tied for first place after Week 2 of the 18th season of DWTS.

Both of the Oakland County natives scored 25 points in this week’s competition, where White and his pro partner, Sharna Burgess danced the tango and Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy did a swing dance.

Judge Carrie Ann Inaba told White, dancing with pro partner Sharna Burgess, that he looked like “Baryshnikov out there, a wild-haired Baryshnikov.”

She and Bruno Tonioli each gave White and Burgess a 9, while Len Goodman scolded the pair for breaking a hold, a rules violation and gave the pair a 7.

“Charlie, don’t worry, I love you when you’re bad,” Tonioli said. He said he loved White’s “predatory killer instinct.”

Davis and Chmerkovskiy earned a 9 from Goodman.

“That swing had wings,” Goodman said. “Fly on girl, you’re going to be here for a while.”

Tonioli gave the pair kudos for performing an unbelieavably difficult dance, but knocked off a couple of points because he thought they lost their timing.

Inaba credited Davis with challenging Chmerkovskiy to “work his butt off” and said she appreciated the athleticism in their dance. She also gave the couple an 8.

Two couples were eliminated. Swimmer Diana Nyad and Henry Byalikov were eliminated first, receiving the news earlier Monday. They were allowed to dance, but we’re not scored. Their foxtrot last week earned just 18 of 30 possible points.

Former Detroit Red Wings hockey player Sean Avery and his partner, Karina Smirnoff, also got the boot after they scored 21 for their salsa dance. It was an improvement over last week, when they received 20 points for their contemporary routine.
