30 Days of Giving, Day 11: The Bottomless Toy Chest

Donate new toys to young cancer patients to help make their holidays bright.

This is part of a 30-day series of ways Patch community members can give back this holiday season. We hope you'll take part in this 30 Days of Giving and take the spirit beyond the holidays, because there truly is need all year long.

Help spread cheer to young cancer patients

There's a lot of joy during the holidays, but there are many families facing troubled times. And while some children wish for Barbie dolls and race cars for Christmas, other are merely hoping to get better and out of the hospital.

The Bottomless Toy Chest is a nonprofit organization that hopes to make the lives of the pediatric cancer patients in the hospital better throughout the year. By providing crafts, art projects and toys to children during the course of the year, and especially during the holidays, the Bottomless Toy Chest tries to lift the spirits of those children in need. The nonprofit group serves a handful of hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of Michigan and William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.

New toys for the Bottomless Toy Chest are currently being collected throughout the area through Christmas. A wish list for toys is available on the Bottomless Toy Chest’s website at www.bottomlesstoychest.org. Some of the desired items include baby dolls, motor toys, stuffed animals, diaries and Nerf footballs. Toys for infants, toddlers and teenagers are most needed, though toys for all ages are appreciated.
