5 Events to Help Get in the Holiday Spirit

There's no avoiding it, the holiday season is here and going in full force. Here's a series of upcoming events in and around Bloomfield to help get it started right.

 

Holiday treats and gifts will be available on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. in historic Franklin Village during Main Street Franklin’s Sip, Shop and Stroll event. The third annual holiday stroll will give visitors and residents alike the chance to do their holiday shopping in a one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

In addition to holiday gifts and specials, Sip, Shop and Stroll will feature delightfully delicious munchies and tasty spirits served up in warm century-old storefronts that have been lovingly wrapped in holiday finery and festive lights.

2012 "Gingerbread" Family Preview Night and "Gingerbread House Brunch"

Friends of Preservation Bloomfield will present their fifth annual Gingerbread House Brunch on Friday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Oakland Hills Country Club. This event will be preceded by the third annual “Family Hour” preview evening on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5 to 8p.m. Both events will showcase whimsical gingerbread houses created by local professional and non-professional pastry chefs, which will be reviewed by judges and awarded ribbons for the ‘best of the best.’  Tickets for both events are open to the public.

"Forever Christmas" (holiday revue!)

"Forever Christmas" is a warm, wonderful holiday event for the entire family.  This full-length Christmas revue is filled with beautiful music covering your favorite classics, as well as new Christmas works.  Also included in this wonderfully entertaining show are heart-warming and humorous scenes depicting the lighter side of the holidays that's fun for all ages. Show times are at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

'Cookies With Santa' at Cranbrook House

A right jolly old elf will be dashing into Cranbrook Ho Ho House on Saturday, Dec. 8. From noon to 3 p.m., kids can take a turn sharing their Christmas list with Santa as they sit on his lap. Other festivities of the day include: Christmas caroling, Christmas picture coloring for Santa and free cookies. Families are encouraged to bring their own camera as professional photography is not provided. Doors will open at 11:45 a.m., tickets are $10 per child, adults are free (space is limited, only two adults allowed per child). Reservations must be made by Dec. 3. Please call the Cranbrook House and Gardens Auxiliary office at 248 645.3149 to reserve tickets.

Chanukah Wonderland

Fun for children is sure to abound at in December.

Bais Chabad Torah Center sponsors the annual Chanukah Wonderland event in Orchard Mall Shopping Center from Dec. 9-12. The three-day tribute celebrates the eight-day Jewish holiday, which begins at sunset Dec. 8 and goes until the evening of Dec. 16.
