Christmas is Over – Now What Do I Do With My Tree?

Find out how to recycle your Christmas tree.

Christmas is officially over, and if you had a real tree this year, you may be scratching your head wondering what to do with it now.

Oakland County will accept your Christmas trees at its self-serve Christmas tree recycling locations.

Christmas tree recycling is available at 11 Oakland County Parks from Dec. 26 through Jan. 13, 2013, seven days a week, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. All decorations must be removed from the tree.

Extended collection dates are available at Independence Oaks in Clarkston and Orion Oaks in Orion Township, which will accept Christmas trees until Jan. 27, 2013.

The trees will be processed to make compost and wood chips that will be available to the public free of charge at Orion Oaks County Park in 2013.

Additionally, if you visit DestinationOakland.com and select "Christmas Tree Recycling," you will receive a free white pine tree seedling in the spring from the Oakland Conservation District.

Good info about recycling those trees! If Bloomfield Township residents just cannot get to one of those locations, they can put the tree, stripped of all decorations, out on their curb on their regular trash day from now thru January 31 and Rizzo will pick it up.
