Bloomfield Township Police Department is a Toys for Tots Collection Site

Toys can be donated through Dec. 3 as the department tries to help bring holiday cheer to the underprivileged this season.

Toys for Tots is under way for 2012, and the Bloomfield Township Police Department is again a local donation center this year.

The department is now accepting new, unwrapped presents as donations  in th lobby through Dec. 3. Gifts may be dropped off at the station 24 hours a day.

"We understand the last few years have been very difficult for many of us, but there are always those who need a little more help than others," the department wrote on its Facebook page Wednesday.

Toys for Tots is organized by the Marine Corps Reserves, which will distribute them to needy children throughout Oakland County.

Every year I donate to Toys for Tots, I feel strong about this particular organization. There are so many children throughout the United States that don’t receive any toys on Christmas morning, but they also do not have a hot meal on their family table. Would it not be possible for children who have everything, who truly think money grows on trees because they have been fortunate their entire lives to “want” for nothing, somehow help distribute these toys with the Marine Corps in their area and maybe this will make these fortunate/spoiled children just how fortunate they truly are. I have 2 that would LOVE to be leaders of this. DPW from Bloomfield Hills
