Five Things You Should Know About This Week

Township trustee finalists will emerge; a unique chamber music concert; and Baron football comes home.

Here's a snapshot of the government meetings and newsworthy events around the Bloomfield area.

1.Bloomfield Township Board Study Session

The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees will meet at 9:30 a.m. today at Township Hall to discuss candidates for the open trustee position. The Board accepted applications from the public for two weeks prior to last Thursday’s deadline

The current board members plan to discuss the applicants and narrow the field down to just a few candidates who will address the board and the public at the Sept. 12 meeting. The board has until Sept. 16 to appoint a new number or face a special election under state law.

2. Fairy garden party in Beverly Hills

Celebrate the end of summer with a special "fairy garden party" at Beverly Park today from 3-5 p.m. Families and kids are welcome to an event sponsored by Dandelions Consignment shop in Berkley. The event will feature snacks, fairy crafts and activities and more. The price to attend is $2 for kids, $8 for adults. 

Cant’ make it at that time?  An evening session is scheduled from 6-8 p.m.

Connect with community leaders and hear the latest developments from local school districts at a Q&A discussion at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Birmingham Conference Center. Sponsored by the , the event will feature community discussion with Rob Glass, superintendent of Bloomfield Hills Schools, and David Larson, superintendent of .

4. Chamber Music Performance Featuring Bloomfield Hills Schools’ Dave Reed

Join classic music lovers for a special performance featuring Bloomfield Hills Schools Music Instructor Dave Reed at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the Orchard Lake Community Presbyterian Church, at 5171 Commerce Road. The violinist was named the Michigan Strings Teacher of the Year for 2011 and will preform live with this brother Dr. Robert Reed, on cello, and pianist Ule Wade. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.

Follow up performances are scheduled on Sept. 1 at Eastern Michigan University’s Alexander Music Building at 8 p.m., and the Friendship Village in Kalamazoo on Sept. 3 at 7:15 p.m.

5. Andover Barons return home

After giving two-time defending league champion Hazel Park just about all they could handle in a 28-26 loss on the road in last week’s season opener, the Barons look for some home-field advantage against cross-town rival Birmingham Seaholm High School at 7 p.m. Sept. 1.
