Five Things You Should Know About This Week

From special events and government meetings to the start of school, there's a lot to keep an eye on this week.

 

1.

2. The School Year Kicks Off

Classes begin this week for students in the Bloomfield Hills, Avondale and Pontiac public school districts. Freshman at both Andover and Lahser high schools will start at 7:25 a.m. with orientation and all students must report to their seminar by 9 a.m. Regular schedules will resume Wednesday.

3. Government Meetings

The Bloomfield Township Design Review Board meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Township Hall. Among agenda items are a sepcial event consideration for the Brother Rice High School's Warrior Classic; site improvements to the Level One Bank and Better Health Market; and site plans/rezoning for two properties. The Township Planning Commission also meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Township Hall to discuss site plan approval for a Roadside B&G/Brandy's at 1727 Telegraph Rd.

4. Bowers Farm Anniversary

Celebrate 25 years of the with a special gathering of the Bloomfield Hills Rotary Club, Bloomfield Hills Schools officials and the Friends of the Bowers Farm at noon Thursday under the gazebo. The event is by invitation only and will honor Mr. Bowers' commitment to agricultural education in greater Bloomfield and surrounding communities.

5. New Exhibit Commemorating Holocaust Survivors

A new photography exhibit, will debut at the Janice Charach Epstein Gallery in the Saturday, as the first of what will become a traveling exhibit featuring the portraiture of photographer Monni Must. The Sylvan Lake resident photographed and interviewed Holocaust survivors throughout Europe after the devastating and unexpected death of her eldest daughter, Miya.
