Spc. Kyle B. McClain, 25, died Wednesday in Salim Aka, Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Department of Defense. McClain, a 2005 graduate of , was assigned to 1433rd Engineer Company, 507th Engineer Battalion, 177th Military Police Brigade, Kalamazoo, Mich.

Royal Oak

The line-up for this year's was announced this week, and it features a mix of current and past hit-makers. Mayer Hawthorne, R.E.O. Speedwagon and The Guess Who are among the acts that will play the annual festival from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3.

Troy

What quickly escalated to a homicide investigation as police said they presume Patrick Joseph Mikes, 55, died in a violent altercation in his Troy home. His son, Patrick Jr., was charged Wednesday with  card and is the only named suspect in his father's disappearance.

West Bloomfield

Sandra Crane donated her life savings to help build a school in Mbarara, Uganda, where young adults get a chance for vocational training in the hospitality industry. The effort earned her 'Greatest Person' honors from both West Bloomfield Patch and the Huffington Post. The honor recognizes people who confront issues in their community with creativity and passion.
