Police Cite Rusty Bucket for Liquor License Violations

The new Bloomfield Township restaurant earned the lone reprimand issued by the Bloomfield Township Department during its annual liquor license review.

The Rusty Bucket was the only establishment with a liquor license in Bloomfield Township to receive a citation for serving to a minor in 2012, according to the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

The incident involved a waitress that served to an undercover officer during one of the regular sweeps the department does to test and ensure compliance with regulations set by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (LCC), according to an annual report. In addition to the underage-decoy operations, the department also assessed operations at the establishment related to alcohol sales and LCC policies, and found two violations among the management team.

Police cited four township businesses for LCC violations last year. None of the violations occurred at the Rusty Bucket, which opened in December 2011.

Capt. Scott McCanham said he and department officials met with the restaurant staff and received assurances that all the violations were isolated incidents and would not be repeated. He also said the waitress was reprimanded and retrained, and received a ticket for selling to a minor that was resolved in 48th District Court.

There were no major alcohol-related incidents that required a police response in any township establishment last year, McCanham said.
