UPDATED: Public, Private Schools Closed in Bloomfield Hills Due to Wintry Weather

Scores of school districts in southeast Michigan closed on Friday, after a heavy overnight snowfall – and more is on the way.

 

Updated, 1:30 p.m.: The Bloomfield Hills Schools announced there will be no after-school or evening events today. The girls basketball game against is  rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16 at Andover. The junior varsity plays at 12:30 p.m., and varsity tips off at 2 p.m. All other weekend events, however, will continue as scheduled.

Updated, Noon: Certain programs will be available today at the Bloomfield Township Senior Services building today. Officials confirmed fitness classes, medical transport and Friendship Club services will continue despite the weather, according to an email.

As of 5:30 a.m., the following schools officially canceled classes due to wintry conditions:

  • Academy of the Sacred Heart
  • Brother Rice High School
  • Cranbrook Schools
  • Detroit Country Day
  • Marian High School
  • Roeper Lower and Upper School
  • St. Hugo of the Hills School
  • St. Regis Catholic School

Nearby districts like Birmingham, Troy and West Bloomfield are also closed.

Roughly four inches of snow fell overnight on the entire Metro Detroit area, and more wet, heavy snow is expected through Friday morning, as the area remains under a winter weather advisory, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow covered and icy roads have led to multiple accidents, and dozens of school districts in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties closed for the day, according to local television station reports.

Today's high is expected to reach 31 degrees.
