Bloomfield Hills, Birmingham Have Separate Ballot Issues Related to Baldwin Library

Birmingham residents will vote on a $21 million bond issue to update Baldwin Library and demolish additions in May. In August, Bloomfield Hills residents will decide whether to extend the contract to use the Birmingham facility.

Residents of two Oakland County communities will vote on bond issues in the coming months related to Baldwin Library in Birmingham.

On May 6, voters there wil be asked to approve a $21 million bond issue to update the library and demolish additions to the facility so it can revert back to its original architectural style, The Oakland Press reports.

With no library of its own, the Bloomfield Hills City Commission unanimously voted this week to extend its contract with the Baldwin Library – a decision voters must approve on an Aug. 5 ballot.

Voters approved the three-year contract in 2011, so the it must be renewed

“It is just an extension of the current one, which expires at the end of this year,” City Manager Jay Cravens said. “Right now, it’s .39 mills.”

The Birmingham library has made it easier for Bloomfield Hills residents to return books with the installation of a return receptacle at Bloomfield Hills city Hall.
