TWO HOLIDAY EVENTS ANNOUNCED BY PRESERVATION BLOOMFIELD

November 6, 2012 (Bloomfield Hills) – Heralded as two of the “sweetest occasions" of this holiday season, the Friends of Preservation Bloomfield will present their fifth annual Gingerbread House Brunch on Friday, December 7th, from 9:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at an area country club.  This event will be preceded by the third annual “Family Hour” preview evening on Thursday, December 6th, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Both events will showcase whimsical gingerbread houses created by local professional and non-professional pastry chefs, which will be reviewed by judges and awarded ribbons for the ‘best of the best.’  Both events are open to the public.

The Gingerbread House Brunch will be emceed by Fox2 News, Monica Gayle, with special performances by Sonia Lee, an internationally renowned violinist, and the Andover String Orchestra Ensemble.  Two dozen imaginative gingerbread houses will be on display for ‘viewing and oohing,’ along with professionally decorated tabletop trees, wreaths and centerpieces donated by top area florists and professional interior designers.  All items will be available for purchase through silent auction. Live auction items include premier seating tickets to the musical, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” at the Detroit Opera House, as well as a restored Victorian dollhouse.

Sonia Lee is a Julliard-trained, award-winning violinist who has performed at the White House, having been an instrumentalist for Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Don Henley, Billy Joel, and The Three Tenors, as well as competing as a semi-finalist on America's Got Talent.

The “Family Hour” event has been billed as a casual night of fun and fare, for grandparents, parents, children, and anyone seeking an evening bursting with holiday cheer.  The Family Hour includes a sneak preview of the 24 gingerbread houses, a holiday dinner buffet, and silent auction bidding.  In addition, boys and girls will enjoy decorating a log cabin and creating a winter scene, building LEGO® creations at a themed station by the Robot Garage, a Spin Art craft station, family photo opportunities with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and experience kits donated by The Home Depot®.

Ticket prices for the Gingerbread House Brunch are $75 Patron, and $100 Benefactor.  Ticket prices for the Family Hour are $60 Adult, and $30 Children.  RSVP’s no later than Thursday, November 29.  For location and reservation information, contact Pam Budde at 248.642.7806.

Proceeds from both events will help the Friends of Preservation Bloomfield continue its restoration of the pre-Civil War Barton Farmhouse, located at the Charles L. Bowers School Farm in Bloomfield Hills, at 1219 E. Square Lake Road.

Isn't this the way too many jurisdictions have gotten into financial trouble -- using bonds toRead More finance expenses rather than restricting them to long lived assets? Perhaps the pensions need to be reformed rather than "reforming" their financing. Are we taking on added pension obligations for personnel to support services we have "sold" to other jurisdictions?

I was wrong when I predicted that the School District would be asking for more money in two or threeRead More years - by two or three years...... No wonder I didn't get elected to the Board. With such miscalculations on my part, I realize that the majority of the voters had so much more insight than I had........lol Maybe I should learn a lesson here - borrow money to keep the "life-style" I have become used to. What genius!
