BHSD could look to Taylor and Romulus to see their near future.

Here is a succinct story from Michigan Live detailing the fall out from the dissolution of Inkster School District and Saginaw Buena Vista District this summer.

BHSD parents should take note. This story describes their near future.

Neighboring Districts that had to absorb kids from those Districts are now faced with greater deficits. Taylor and Romulus, for example, are set to sink, weighted down by the closure of nearby districts. No doubt their test scores and other assorted measures will drop. And as those metrics drop, they will move up the dissolution.

Pontiac, the next District on the list to dissolve, when it closes, will have the same effect on BHSD.

In a bizarre quote, Mike Flanagan, the state superintendent, who seems to think all this is just happening naturally like the turning of the leaves, says the only hope is "new kids coming in" even though it is clear that the new kids coming in from surrounding "dissolved" Districts bring the absorbing Districts in to debt.

This, by the way, has been the plan all along, since 2011. Sink struggling districts, you will bring down all Districts.

I just returned from a characteristically inspiring curriculum night at my daughter's school. I was torn between screaming at the top of my lungs "You will lose this soon!" -- and not having the heart to say anything at all.
