Signs of Thanksgiving now include School District closures

There are signs that Thanksgiving is near.

Colder temps. Even snow. Family fatigue and the need for a break. High school football winding down and basketball picking up.

And the state is moving forward with its "piecemeal" strategies to close Districts, including nearby Pontiac. Here is the news piece from Diana Dillaber Murray at The Oakland Press describing, first, the transfer of all services to Oakland Intermediate District (not a terrible thing) and the "consulting" of Donald Weatherspoon whose job -- it seems -- is to wait for Pontiac to miss a state deadline or screw up in some other way so that he can step in as Emergency Manager and either charter the District or close it down. http://www.theoaklandpress.com/general-news/20131111/pontiac-teachers-return-to-class-no-agreement-m...

For neighboring Districts like BHSD, the consequences will be the same as when the state scheme was hatched last winter or spring. BHSD, like Taylor after the closing of Inkster, will be forced to absorb students and other expenses that drive its rating down in an increasingly sick metrics game designed to crush public education...not to mention the "piecemeal" efforts to drain the school aid fund. Here is the Lansing State Journal waking up to the fact that the wholesale legislation of December 2012 was not abandoned, just cloakedhttp://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20131110/GRANDLEDGE02/311030043/Online-class-law-changes-...

Who could say no to taking on 1/4 of Pontiac's trouble at Thanksgiving? That has been the target date all along. And BHSD is very, very busy discussing the only thing it likes to discuss (other than religion) the fate of Lahser site.

Shhhhh. If you wait just a little longer you won't have to worry about Lahser at all....
