Bloomfield Township Resident, Cranbrook Alumnus Killed in I-94 Crash

George Orley was struck after leaving his vehicle, police said.

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash Monday that killed a Bloomfield Township man in western Wayne County.

George Orley, 20, died when he was struck by a semi-tractor trailer as he reportedly tried to cross I-94 near Belleville at about 10:30 p.m., according to a press release from the Michigan State Police. Orley was a 2011 graduate of Cranbrook Kingswood, and was currently a student at the University of Michigan, the Oakland Press reported.

Initial police reports indicate that a witness told police Orley parked his 2012 Acura along the right shoulder, exited the vehicle and tried to walk across eastbound I-94. The semi tried to avoid him, but struck Orley in the center lane, the newspaper reported.

Orley's funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ira Kaufman Chapel in Farmington Hills. Burial will follow at Clover Hill Park Cemetery with Rabbi Joseph Krakoff and Cantor David Propis officiating, according to his obituary.

Orley is survived by parents Randy and Diane Orley, sister Amanda, and brother Sam.
