Drunken Pair Arrested For Shooting At Birdhouse

Bloomfield Township police will present their report to prosecutors for charges.

Two people could face multiple charges for firing dozens of bullets off the balcony of a home in Bloomfield Township Thursday morning in what appears to be a case of drunken target practice, authorities said.

The Bloomfield Township Police Department received multiple calls about shots being fired from residents in the area of North Pemberton shortly after 8 a.m., reports said. One caller said he saw two people firing a gun off the rear deck of a home up to 30 times.

Officers set up a perimeter at the location and saw a vehicle leave that home described by the witness, according to a press release. They stopped the car and arrested the driver, who was intoxicated and in possession of a firearm.

Police then entered the home and arrested another man without incident. After obtaining a search warrant, investigators found several firearms and spent shell casings, the release stated. Both men were described as highly intoxicated and told investigators they were shooting a birdhouse hanging from a tree outside.

No injuries were reported. Further details about the men were not immediately available.
