UPDATED: Shooting of Local Attorney by Man Posing as Police Officer 'Not ... a Random Act'

Bloomfield Hills police have released the identity of the man who was shot by a would-be intruder posing as a police officer Wednesday night as a local attorney.

David Zacks, 57, is a partner in the Birmingham law firm of Ishbia & Gagleard PC, Bloomfield HIlls Public Safety Director David Hendrickson told The Oakland Press late Thursday night. According to his profile on the law firm’s web site, Zacks specializes in white-collar criminal defense and complex commercial litigation.

He represented the city of Detroit in more than 50 liability and civil rights cases from the 1990s through 2004, according to the profile.

The suspect, who has not yet been identified, fired multiple gunshots through Zacks’ front door when he refused to let him in. Zacks underwent emergency surgery and is in stable condition.

No arrests have been made, but Hendrickson said his department is directing all of its resources toward the investigation.

“It is not believed that this crime is a random act,” he told the newspaper.

A Bloomfield Hills man is in stable condition with multiple gunshot wounds after he refused to let a man who claimed to be a police officer into his home late. Wednesday night.

The would-be intruder fired “several shots” through the front door of the man’s home in the 700 block of Woodwind Drive near Lahser Road, the Detroit Free Press reports. The incident occurred about 11:45 p.m.

The victim told investigators the assailant wasn’t dressed as a police officer. Bloomfield Hills Police Sgt. Rick Szuber said he wasn’t a police officer.

According to witnesses, the suspect ran from the house and fled in a dark-colored vehicle.
