Men Steal Tools, Assault Worker at Bloomfield Township Lowe's

Investigators are treating this shoplifting incident as an armed robbery because a thief struck an employee with a stolen tool.

Two men filled a shopping cart with tools and left the Lowe's in Bloomfield Township without paying Monday, Bloomfield Township Police Department reports said. The shoplifters, investigators said, escalated the incident to an armed robbery when one of the men used a tool from the cart to strike a store security officer as they escaped.

The men entered the store at 1801 Telegraph Rd. shortly before 10 a.m. and loaded a number of handheld tools into the cart. As they started to flee, one of the men saw a security officer chasing them and struck the woman in the hip with a hammer drill, investigators said. The 50-year-old woman did not report serious injuries.

The men got into a blue sedan with an Illinois license plate and drove off. No further descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle were immediately available, and the Investigation is on-going.
