Oakland County's 'Funeral Bandit' Arrested in Colorado

Police arrested Todd Lloyd Griffin in connection with 16 home burglaries in five southeast Michigan counties.

Authorities on Monday arrested Todd Lloyd Griffin, 44, in connection with 16 home burglaries across five counties in southeast Michigan, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

Griffin targeted homes that were awaiting estate sales or homes of families who were at funerals, earning him the nickname "funeral bandit," Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said at a press conference Monday.

Just hours afterwards, Griffin, whose birthday also fell on Monday, was located by local authorities in Colorado at a pawn shop and arrested without incident at 4:30 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. Local authorities told them that Griffin was in possession of numerous jewelry items.

"I can’t think of a better birthday present to give this lowlife who had been violating families in their time of grieving," Bouchard said in a statement.

When police searched Griffin's home in Pontiac, they found thousands of dollars worth of stolen property, according to the Detroit Free Press.
