Parolee Headed to Trial For Shoplifting at Bloomfield Township Costco

Kenneth Camboni, 48, remains in custody and will appear before an Oakland County Circuit Court judge later this month.

The Eastpoint man accused of repeatedly using a shoplifting-and-return-for-cash scam at the Bloomfield Township Costco has a hearing date before an Oakland County Circuit Court judge later this month.

Kenneth Camboni waived his right to a preliminary hearing in 48th District Court on Thursday, court records show. He remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail, and is scheduled to appear before Oakland County Circuit Judge Leo Bowman on Jan. 21.

Bloomfield Township police officers arrested Camboni, 48, on Dec. 30 after store security detained him at the Costco. Investigators said that Camboni tried to return a blender that was taken off the shelf and was never paid for. Costco employees said he was responsible for similar incidents for merchandise estimated at about $1,500, police reports said.

Staying Put

Steve Reina, Camboni's court-appointed attorney, would not discuss details of the case Friday, but said he looked forward to the pre-trial hearing.

"It's in our practice to do our talking in court, and i'm confident we"ll get a fair hearing before the judge in Oakland County Circuit Court," he said by telephone.

Camboni's bond is set at $25,000, but even if Reina could get it reduced, he is not going anywhere. The Michigan Department of Corrections has a hold request on Camboni for absconding from parole in May, MDOC records show.
He served more than three years of a maximum six-year sentence on a larceny charge before his release in Aug. 2011.

His criminal history includes six prior convictions in Macomb County for various crimes including assault, larceny and fleeing police, records show.
